Australian-American Fulbright Commission

The Australian-American Fulbright Commission runs the Fulbright Program in Australia from Canberra. It funds study, research and professional exchange between Australia and the United States. Australians can apply in postgraduate, postdoctoral, scholar, First Nations, researcher and professional categories. The postgraduate award supports a master's degree or a four to eight month research stay for PhD students. It includes a monthly stipend, a $10,000 annual tuition allowance and return airfare up to $4,000. The Commission arranges the J-1 visa, which carries a two-year home residency requirement. Applicants must be Australian citizens living in Australia without US citizenship or permanent residency. Final-year undergraduates can apply. The Commission states that applications open in February and close in July, with dates set each year. The 2027-28 round has closed. It advises applicants to check back in February for 2028-29 awards.
