The Profession Under Pressure

In her June message, Law Council President Tania Wolff named what practitioners across the country are already living: the legal profession is under growing pressure, and lawyers' health, wellbeing, safety and resilience must be treated as a priority rather than an afterthought. Wolff took the presidency in January with this as an explicit commitment — not a talking point, a platform. The message arrived one day before the AML/CTF regime commenced and another layer of compliance obligation settled onto firms still working out what the new rules mean for them. The timing was coincidental. The connection was not.
