A&O Shearman

A&O Shearman is an international law firm with Australian offices in Sydney and Perth. It runs a ten-week summer clerkship in Sydney and a three-week summer clerkship in Perth. Both target penultimate year law students. Summer clerks may be offered graduate positions. New Zealand students apply through the same clerkship path and are recruited on campus in Auckland and Wellington each April. The Perth office also hires legal support professionals for its Advanced Delivery team. Sydney applications follow the NSW timetable and open in June. Perth applications open in late June and close in late July.

Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT)

The Aboriginal Legal Service (NSW/ACT) Limited is an Aboriginal community-controlled legal service. It provides legal help to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. Its criminal law practice runs offices in regional centres including Bathurst, Dubbo, Broken Hill, Bourke, Walgett, Moree, Armidale, Tamworth, Wagga Wagga, Griffith and Lismore. It recruits graduate and junior solicitors on a rolling basis for its Western NSW criminal practice. From 2027 it hosts up to six UNSW Law & Justice interns each year under a paid internship partnership. It is also a host organisation in the ACT Cross-Sector Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Law Graduate Program run by Legal Aid ACT.

ACT Courts and Tribunal

The ACT Courts and Tribunal is the shared administration of the Supreme Court and Magistrates Court of the Australian Capital Territory, in Canberra City. The Supreme Court hears higher-level civil and criminal matters, appeals and judicial review. The Magistrates Court covers lower-level criminal offences including bail and children's matters, civil disputes and enforcement, family violence and protection orders, Fair Work disputes and coronial inquiries. It also runs specialist lists such as the Galambany Court, Warrumbul Circle Sentencing Court and Jervis Bay Court. Both courts operate from 4-6 Knowles Place, with an eLodgment system for filing.
