Anika Legal
Anika Legal is a Victorian community legal centre that works remotely and gives free, ongoing legal help to renters. It assists people in private rental or social housing who are on low or middle incomes, or who struggle to get legal help elsewhere. Its services cover eviction support for notices to vacate, bond recovery and rental repairs. Renters apply through an online intake form, and practitioners can refer clients. Anika also uses its casework data to advocate for stronger renter protections and housing reform. It reports helping more than 1,600 renters with over 90 volunteers. Law students run their own cases under the supervision of qualified lawyers, drafting advice and dealing with landlords. Anika partners with law schools including Deakin, RMIT, Swinburne and La Trobe. Some universities offer the work as a credit-bearing placement, and other students can register interest through its law students page.
