General Sir John Monash Foundation

The General Sir John Monash Foundation awards the John Monash Scholarship from its office in Docklands, Melbourne. The scholarship funds Australians to undertake a full-time master's or PhD at a university outside Australia. Any field of study is eligible. It provides $100,000 a year for up to three years, to a maximum of $300,000, plus a one-off travel allowance. The funding covers tuition, accommodation and living costs. The Foundation awards 14 to 20 scholarships each year. Applicants must be Australian citizens with an undergraduate degree from an Australian university. Final-year students can apply if they will complete their degree by 31 December of the year they apply. Selection looks at excellence in the applicant's field, leadership and commitment to Australia's future. Applicants cannot already hold a Rhodes, Fulbright or Ramsay scholarship for the same program. Applications for 2028 scholarships open in May 2027. The 2027 round ran from 1 May to 30 June. The Foundation also runs a Leadership Academy and a podcast.
